How to make a WiFi QR code for your rental
- Type your network name and password exactly as they appear on your router or in its app. Capitals and spaces count.
- Check the security type. Almost every modern router uses WPA2 or WPA3; leave it on the first option unless your router is very old.
- Test it with your own phone before printing: point the camera at the screen and tap “Join”.
- Download or print the card and put it where guests look first.
How guests scan it
No app needed on most phones. On an iPhone (iOS 11 or later), guests open the Camera, point it at the code and tap the “Join network” notification. On Android (Android 10 or later) the Camera app or Google Lens shows a “Connect” button. Printing the password on the card as well helps the few guests whose phone doesn’t read the code.
Where to put the WiFi card
- By the front door or on the fridge, the first places guests look.
- Next to the router, so the guest who needs to restart it finds the code too.
- In your welcome book, next to the check-in details. Our free welcome book template has a WiFi section ready to fill in.
Keep your WiFi safe
- Use a separate guest network if your router offers one, so guests never share a network with your own devices or cameras.
- Change the guest password from time to time (for example once a season), then make a new card.
- Don’t show the card in your listing photos. Anyone can zoom in and read it.
Questions hosts ask
Is this WiFi QR code generator free and private?
Yes. It is free, there is no sign-up, and the code is made in your browser: your network name and password are never sent to us or anyone else.
Does the QR code work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. On an iPhone (iOS 11 or later) guests open the Camera and point it at the code, then tap the WiFi notification. On most Android phones (Android 10 or later) the Camera or Google Lens does the same.
What happens if I change my WiFi password?
The printed code stops working, because the password is inside it. Make a new code with the new password and replace the card. If you change the password often, keep it on a page you can edit instead of on paper.
My network is hidden. Will the code still work?
Yes. Tick “Hidden network” so phones know to look for it. Most phones can join a hidden network from a QR code, though a visible guest network is simpler for guests.
Where should I put the WiFi card in my rental?
Where guests look first: by the front door, on the fridge, or next to the router, and one copy in your welcome book. Avoid showing it in your listing photos, where anyone can read it.
